At age 5 & 6 our emphasis is on skill progression. At this age, we try to emphasize the fact: "tasks = rewards". In other words, a skill is introduced, and the child works on that skill until it is satisfactory. Their reward is "accomplishment" and the okay by the coach to move to the next skill in the progression.
Skill progression must have a good foundation on which to be built. This foundation and is certainly important if the child decides to stay with the sport for years to follow.
** 5 & 6 year old who are progressing rapidly are placed in the next age group. We now offer different skill levels at ages 5 & 6.
The children work on Vaulting, Bars, Beam and tumbling. The trampolines are sometimes utilized for fun and variety. Skills are specific, and progressive. In other words, the children are constantly being evaluated for readiness. Readiness in this instance could mean ready for the next skill, or ready for the next level.
TUMBLING/TRAMPOLINE: This program is meant to more skill specific. Some parents want their child to be a cheerleader, or a child who has done gymnastics is getting frustrated with bars (or is afraid of beam).
This program concentrates on only 2 events, which means that progress will be faster.
