Perhaps the most diverse age group are the 4 year olds. A 4 year old can be at almost any stage of development...some could still be afraid of separation of parents, others could have already acquired a "goal-oriented" mentality. Some are still working on hopping on one foot, while others are already doing cartwheels/round offs.
It is for this reason that we begin offering skill levels for this age groups.
Our gymnastics program is a mix between creative movement, gross motor skills, strength and flexibility, and specific gymnastics skills. Since a four year olds gymnastics development can vary so much, our program design includes a variety of activities so that we can build a well rounded individual. We still employ some "play" activities such as games and rhythm activities, as well as cognitive activities such as counting and alphabet.
Since most 4 year olds are limited on the complexity of skills, we do place emphasis on basic gymnastics skills to prepare them for the next age group. The target skills for this age group are handstand & cartwheel, supporting themselves on a bar, and being able to pull themselves up (chin-up, or pullover).
The 4 year old program is divided into levels to allow for the physical diversity in this age group.
